If birthday cakes aren’t your thing, then we’ve got some b-day alternatives for you.
Continuing family traditions with monthly birthday cakes.
To me, the best type of family traditions are those revolving around food. I imagine carefully hand-written recipes that are passed down from generation to generation. Joe often talks about trying out new restaurants with his family on a weekly basis. Each member got a turn to choose the place to dine and it was something for him to look forward to every week.
When I was born, my mother took it upon herself to celebrate my monthly birthdays. She would purchase a full-sized cake to commemorate my monthly milestones and would photograph it to put in an album. I often look back on these pictures and gush at how much effort she put into building my memories.
I’ve decided to continue this tradition with Leo. As a food blogger with an undeniable sweet tooth, I find the tradition of monthly birthday cakes so fitting. I’m a little behind on his cake updates, so this post will be dedicated to Leo’s first two months.
Of course, for his first month, I went all out and picked up a cake from a place like no other: Duc de Lorraine. Leo’s 1-month birthday fell just after Valentine’s Day, so we indulged in one of Duc’s finest creations: a white cake filled with vanilla buttercream, topped with a smooth, delicious layer of red fondant.
For Leo’s second cake, we headed to Première Moisson and opted for a blueberry-almond tart.
I can’t wait to photograph these memories and log them onto Marble Crumbs. Creating memories is one of the best parts of having a family. Hopefully Leo will look back on these and be reminded of how much he was celebrated and loved.
