Eating Big at Faberge

Enjoying a large brunch at one of Montreal's hottest brunching spots.

I have always been known for my hefty eating in the early morning. Sometimes, I wish I could be one of the girls who could sip on lemon water and eat spoonfuls of grapefruit to start my day right. I mean, I’m fully capable, but there’s just something about a savory breakfast that I can’t resist (and also, without my morning toast and bacon, I’m a big ol’ grumpy fur-monster).

All jokes aside, I really do have a weakness for a full-on, classic breakfast. Last weekend, Joe and I headed to Fabergé for an early brunch. Safe to say, the fur-monster version of me stayed in hiding because I ate extremely well. I think that’s an immediate expectation once you walk through Fabergé’s doors: the smell of all-things-breakfast immediately creep up your nose and suddenly, your craving for eggs, bacon, and sausage becomes an absolute need and you nearly have to fight yourself from ordering every single item off of their menu.

Naturally, I went for their Le Massif meal which comes with everything I need on a breakfast plate: eggs, perfectly grilled sausages, bacon, home fries, beans, their insanely delicious homemade croutons, and your choice of a crepe or French toast. I opted for the French toast or, as we like to say it around here: pain doré. It was lightly sprinkled with icing sugar (yay!) and I doused it with maple syrup. What? Are you judging me? The French toast was nearly asking to be soaked in the syrup… I was just following orders.

Joe went for the chicken and waffles and thank goodness he did because he had been talking about this meat-and-breakfast-combo for awhile now. I have had versions of it in the past but Joe was so eager to finally try the sweet-and-salty combination. He says it reminds him of his time living in South Carolina and he cleaned his plate without question.

Arrive early if you want to avoid lines and enjoy every one of their scrumptious meals. Seriously. Bring an appetite and take note: those home fries that I mentioned above are utter perfection. Fried ever so carefully but not swimming in oil like other breakfast places – just perfectly crisp and seasoned.

  1. We are so alike! I don’t even understand people who can eat cereal for breakfast. I mean, if it’s the most important meal of the day, we might as well eat as much as we can, right? Haha nothing like a huge fried meal to start the day. The food here actually made my mouth water! Looks so delicious.
